Within the framework of consumer protection reforms implemented under the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), a new technical assistance mission in the framework of the EU-funded project “Support to the CEPA Monitoring, Implementation and Communication has been launched. This mission entitled “ Approximation of Consumer Protection Legislation 2” is conducted by two experts from the sister-institution of Poland, UOKIK.
During the visit, working discussions were organised at the Competition Protection Commission, which was attended by project officials and experts, representatives of interested departments, including the Ministries of Justice and Economy.
Member of the CPC Shushan Sargsyan expressed gratitude for the continuous support for the consumer protection legislative reforms, adding that it has already shown its successful results in practice. The legislative package, was developed in particular by taking into account the proposals submitted by international experts in a first assignment early 2024, was adopted by the National Assembly on July 3 and will enter into force on August 1.
The second package of legislative reforms envisages, with the support of the experts, the development of amendments in line with the EU directives on unfair terms in consumer contracts, misleading and comparative advertising, consumer rights, and contracts for the sale of goods.
During the meetings, the experts were presented with the progress of the work carried out, the existing issues of the process were raised, and further actions were clarified.
