CPC will ensure that the products labeled “Feta” on grocery stores is exclusively produced in a clearly defined geographical area. As a result of proceedings initiated by the Competition Protection Commission regarding the realisation of cheeses labeled “Feta” or with the label containing the word “Feta”, 5 out of 7 economic entities admitted the fact of the offence and filed motion on administering expedited proceedings. As a result of expedited proceedings, sanctions were imposed to the economic entities. Proceedings against two entities are ongoing.
The basis for initiating these proceedings was the import and realisation of cheeses labeled “Feta” or with the label containing the word “Feta” by economic entities, when prima facie these products were not produced in the geographical area specified in the place of origin “Feta” and did not comply with the associated requirements.
